Seems Sommet Sports is trying to make a come back:

https://attending.io/events/sommet-strikes-back
http://sommetsports.co.nz/help-bring-sommet-sports/

On 12 December we thought the Sommet Sports dream was over. But thanks to the overwhelming support and determination from our viewers, it seems this is not so. We’re getting ready to strike back, better than ever, with our crowd.

If they want to come back two things they must do

1. Improve the quality of their broadcast, it was terrible.
2. Reduce the intensity of their channel water mark

I would add, have a streaming option. If they are constrained for bandwidth on freeview that should help quite a bit since most people have way more internet bandwidth than freeview ever could hope to provide to a channel.

No problem with bandwidth on terrestrial. Fourth mux has room for two HD channels. Problem is the muck they were feeding into encoders. Looked so bad it was the level of a computer with a capture card sending stream via adsl at less than 1 Mbps from another country. I think the Blundeslegia was zoomed from 4:3 to 16:9 and had the graphics shifted, hence the horrendous blurry mess made worse on Sky with reencode to mpeg2.They just had no clue about the fundamentals of TV broadcast and don't deserve to have access to a frequency in my mind.

Online only that's good. I predict D1-CIF resolution.

I do hope this works, but I'm just not sure how the business model for crowd funding a tv station works.

They could not attract enough paying advertisers last time to pay the bills etc, so how will that situation change  with a new round of capital from the public?
They say if they get $500k then they will launch part time on all platforms.

$1.2 million and it will be 24/7 on all platforms, so back to what is was when they accumulated  $2.5 million of debt in 17 months.

I think the major problem they had was they only got something like 1/3 of the funding they were promised by whoever put up the original money. What I want to know then is if they hadn't received the money they were expecting/needed why did they keep spending on content and also launching on satellite

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

To stop all the people bleating on facebook about how they couldn't access it, and it wasn't fair.
(no matter what the sommet fb post was actually about)

Sommet needs to get back on Freeview, if only part-timr to start with. Online is not enough.

38k, and their base target is ten times that. Looks like they're done.

I figured there would atleast be some perks(ie discounted sports packages) rather than wanting to be freerolled entirely with nothing in return.

Nothing in return? Free-to-air AFL is enough for me. Their coverage has been awesome. Plus I like their ethos.

I assume you pledged $10K then.
