i just wanted to know can you play videos via the usb or is it only for recording tv and playing the recorded videos

 

or is there a way to convert videos to mpeg2 mp2 .mpg files and have them play?

The manual suggests that you are unable to playback content on the USB unless it was recorded by the unit.
