Hi,

Hopefully this is the right forum for my questions.
Im looking at getting rid of sky and just have a few enquiries.

Can I use my satellite dish with a freeview recorder?

For streaming do I need a smart tv or would a normal tv with chromecast do? - For Netflix, Light box and nba league pass.

With the chromecast can i plug it into my AVR -Pioneer VSX 920 and let it do the video/Audio?

I guess I have to have my AVR connected to the Internet for the chromecast to work?

I'm going to upgrade my broadband to unlimited, Is fibre the best option for speed?

I think that's covered it all sorry if they're noob questions.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Thanks for the quick reply, very helpful ! :-)

Regarding the chromecast how would I output the audio through my AVR? I don't really want to use the TV speaker's for sound.

does your AVR have an audio return channel? if so you can use that.

if not can use an optical/coaxial from the TV back to the AVR

That is what no plans usually means? Fingers crossed something happens with skys upgrades to get capacity sometime soon.

no public announcements have been made... however there are some wild rumors flying about :p

If anyone will know it will be Josh; however from the lack of information he is more than likely under a NDA

Check the coverage map first, in case you are not able to get a DVB-T signal.  If thats the case, then youre stuck with the dish regardless.

If you are plugging the Chromecast into an HDMI port on your AVR, you don't need to do anything about the Audio - it will be processed by your AVR and come out of your speakers (and the TV).

If you can get an aerial put up for Freeview Terrestrial, do it - picture quality is much better, and you have a better range of Freeview DVRs to choose from.
