Well I am about to pull my hair out.. I have now got the two hauppauge 3000 cards working with Freeview through a splitter. Have not looked again at adding more services from the cards yet as I want to get it working in basic form before I go adding to it.

But what is driving me up the wall is the EPG. I have had some help from RustyGonad in getting the EPG download from http://epg.pvr.geek.nz/epg/ to download and be processed by bladerunner but I just cannot get it to setup in VMC!

I am not even sure if I have got bladerunner setup right. I was getting error 14 and was only able to get past that by re writing the reg key from (cant remember the path but basically) file://servername/admin$/ehome/bladerunner/native/httpfile.html to file://%systemroot%\ehome\bladerunner\native\httpfile.html
But even though that got rid of the error 14 it then had the problem that the next button did not highlight once it said download complete.

Am I missing something? Is there some step that you need to do that I just have not heard about.

I used to use a standalone pgm for my EPG for my VMC, which was a oneclick install and it worked everytime. I think it got the EPG from Haventech ?? I don't remember if it accessed Freeview channel listings, but it downloaded the EPG automatically, and I foundit much easier to setup/use than Rivens one, as nice as that was.

If you or anyone would a like a copy (only @800kb file) email me.

Mate, I'm this close to taking my freakin' HTPC and throwing it out the window. Then going outside and dousing it with the hose!

I wish I could help you with this one as I too had many issues initially setting up my EPG.  It is all working sweet now.  But, unfortunately for you, I use Reven's xmlTVNZ so cannot help.

If you did decide to use Reven's xmlTVNZ then I could give you all the files you needed.  But you have to donate to Reven first before getting access to his stuff.

But if it is any help to you, here are the commands in my cmd file which deals with Bladerunner Pro.  I have no idea if they would be similar for your EPG solution:

Copy /Y tvguide.xml ..\BladeRunnerPro\GuideData\listing2.xml
Copy /Y xmltv.dtd ..\BladeRunnerPro\GuideData\xmltv.dtd
Copy /Y ChannelInfo.xml ..\BladeRunnerPro\QuickGuide\ChannelInfo.xml
..\BladeRunnerPro\BLADERUNNER

Mr Gonad seems to have gone to ground unfortunately.  I'm waiting for him to reply to a couple of posts (make that like 100's of panicky posts) to get my tuners set up properly.

Let me know if the above helps.

yes - although i normally have my MC on XP rather than Vista.  it works fine with both versions though.  unfortunately I packed up my media center last night due to renovations so cant fire it up and give you my vista scripts... perhaps in two weeks i could help but thats a long way away :p

basically it was identical to the bladerunner instructions in the prev post, but with some wgets and gzips  thrown in to download the xml files from epg.pvr

I have now got it up and running using xmlTVNZ. It did show me at least some of the things that would have been stopping it working but after all the problems I think I will stick with xmlTVNZ at least for now.

managed to get the file from my backup Tongue out

btw: it is important to have a valid version of the xmltv.dtd file, I had a corrupt one which was causing me problems that i did not see with bladerunner/xmltvnz combo

the epg.geek one is definately the best source if you only want freeview info - its fast and easy :)

---cut  here---
c:
cd c:\Windows\ehome\bladerunnerpro\
del /q /f listings-freeview.xml.gz
wget "http://epg.pvr.geek.nz/epg/listings-freeview.xml.gz"
del /q /f c:\Windows\ehome\BladeRunnerPro\listings-freeview.xml
gzip -d c:\Windows\ehome\BladeRunnerPro\listings-freeview.xml
copy /Y listings-freeview.xml c:\WINDOWS\ehome\BladeRunnerPro\GuideData\xmltv.xml
copy /Y xmltv.dtd c:\WINDOWS\ehome\BladeRunnerPro\GuideData\xmltv.dtd
copy /Y FreeViewChannelInfo.xml c:\WINDOWS\ehome\BladeRunnerPro\Quickguide\ChannelInfo.xml

Regs I had the process running fine but suspect that it came down to the couple of missing steps that I had not done (things like setting up the web service.

Do you happen to have a copy of a good xmltv.dtd file?

I the couple of days I have been using raven's epg and it has not been very reliable, this morning no detail for 1,2 or 3 or infact any of the freeview channels other then C4. Switched it to use the freeview feed rather then default and they came back.

Which raised another question in my mind.. so when that happens I guess all your recordings don't happen? and also how come it "lost" the info it already had? I would have thought that as it had already downloaded the info it would leave it there. Not wipe the whole lot outUndecided

you should be able to get the latest xmltv.dtd file from the sourceforge site: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=39046

Every time you do an upload it overwrites everything (not very clever, but easier to code :)  If you have no guide data then recordings don't happen - it goes on the show name rather than the day/time/duration (although you could probably set up a manual schedule somehow as its possible when you are not using the guide)

i'm at the other end of the country from my media center right now otherwise I would zip up the files and send you a link...  I do know that since i started using the epg.pvr.geek listings I havent had a problem.  If the latest listings cant download then bladerunner will bail out (listings file will be missing) and MCE wont overwrite anything :)  With xmltvnz it will succeed with only one channel (for example) and then your guide gets busted.  Perhaps a extra flag or step in the batch file could prevent that.

Regs, had another crack at this yesterday as my wife was out so could do it mostley uninterupted (kids were still home).

Well I think something is going wrong at the bladerunner stage. I can import the file into VMC ok but there is nothing in it.

I am just downloading the freeview channels that this stage as that is all I can get but the bin file created by bladerunner is only 3k. This from a 627k xml fileUndecided

I could realy do with your files even just to see what is different. I did download the latest xmltv.dtd as you suggested.

Have you created a valid channelinfo.xml file with the correct channelid's in? You'll need this for bladerunner to identify the channels. Mine's setup to do all the freeview and sky channels, but you could easily rip out the sky stuff. Let me know and I can email it to you.

Be more useful if someone hosted it that way everyone has access instead of the emailing it everywhere.
