Does anyone have an idea of what's on the plate for TVNZ Sport Extra on Freeview?

Parents-in-law are moving and I was thinking we could ditch Sky Digital altogether, since their only interest is really the rugby and cricket in the sports channels... And the news on the FTA.

It has had very little on it since he launch. Last year it used to carry full live coverage all weekend of the V8 supercars. This was a fantastic use for the channel but TVNZ have now lost this to TV3 and we have to put up with terrible TV3 coverage.

There were rumors of a new Media Works channel to carry V8's but nothing seems to be definate.

The only confirmed use is additional Olympics coverage. Other than that it has generally been a bit Ad Hoc. Don't expect to see any Rugby or Cricket.

They did play some soccer / football on it a while back.  Might have been the game that Beckham played in in Wellington.
But yea don't think there will ever be any rugby and/or cricket on it.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

what a waste of bandwidth . even if they put sporting replays ON .
Can't work out why we need Parliament TV as well ( they should be promoting the country with this channel before everyone leaves )

I suppose it's a bit short notice but they could put the ICL on, I heard the global broadcasting rights for a year were only $10 mil so the NZ rights are probably cheapish. There's a core market there of Indian immigrants and cricket fanatics, while the rest of us would tune in to the replays just to see what all the fuss is about.

Or maybe this is already in the plan but they're holding off until Freeview Plus is sorted out.

TVNZ Sport Extra has all gone a bit quiet recently.  It was good last year with the V8's, especially compared to the half baked awful coverage that we now get from TV3 (they just can't do motorsport properly)

Don't know what's happened to the soccer coverage.  TVNZ (as I understand it) have the rights to all FIFA world cup type games, such as age group and other stuff.  Don't know why they aren't showing it.  Maybe something to do with the fact in some peoples opinion they did a bad job last year of All Whites coverage.  However I disagree, they covered all games live on Sport Extra.

It still perplexes me why they didn't use this station for replays of events.

Seems strange with the TVNZ7 listing a large number of sport offerings whilst the sport channel is empty:

That is an agreement between Stratos and Sky and doesn't involve TVNZ.
