Has anyone changed the HDD in one of these ?

I realise they're not much good with an analogue tuner but we were still getting usage from it with a Dish receiver,

It's 11 years old and the HDD has just died..   I've removed it and found its a Maxtor "Quickview"  Diamond Max16. IDE interface.
CodeRAMB1TUO  is written on it, and D33019. Don't like my chances of a replacement, but I do have an IDE drive I could put in...  but I believe there's more to it (than just connect up  and go).??

I will try putting its drive in the freezer for a few hours..  (don't laugh this has worked with computer HDDs).  Maybe I can get  a few files copied to an optical.

It was coming up "HDD ERR" and no files showing in Disk Navigator.

Have had a great run with it though...

I did this with a Philips model a number of years ago. It was just a matter of swapping the hard drive and installing the firmware.

Found this link for your model. Looks like swapping the actual disk is staright forward enough but you need a special DVD and remote (or an old school PDA with Infrared) to get the unit to function with the new hard drive. Maybe a Pioneer service centre could do it. Good luck!

Hi cb, thanks for that link..  very informative. Will digest it a bit more before deciding what to do..  looks like you need to burn a disk with special software (to find somehow) and a remote with special codes.

I don't know of any service centres in Dunedin... and this may not be worth spending a lot on..  I know a chap who has found plenty of these devices going dirt cheap 2nd hand (but what state they're in who knows..)
