Ive read in other forums that it's possible to use your Skybox to receive Freeview channels when you don't have a subscription to a current Sky account ? I have a Samsung 55in Smart Tv with built in Freeview which requires a UHF aerial,but im told it's a waste of time in my area . Regardless I tried a horizontal aerial,then I also attached it to a Freeview aerial box,and yes, it was a waste of time...
I also,have a satellite dish attached to my house and a Motorola Skybox. I have tuned the dish to 68% using the skybox and Sky set up and by watching the screen as I adjusted the dish...still nothing ... Can I tune in the Freeview channels on this box without having a Sky subscription or do I have to buy a Freeview satellite box ...?

What do you mean by Skybox? Do you mean the satellite receiver with this name, or a decoder provided by Sky TV NZ?

The forums you are reading will be referring to Sky UK boxes. In the UK, you have more freedom with concern to your Sky hardware in that you can upgrade to a newer approved box, and just get your card reactivated. You own your decoder rather than renting it each month like in NZ. They also let you plug in a decoder with no card and get free TV (which isn't how it works in NZ).

In NZ You need to buy a Freeview Satellite box to receive Freeview Satellite. Freeview Satellite is currently Standard definition only, though it might eventually get an HD upgrade... Or, you pay Sky something like $18.90 a month for decoder rental for all the free channels in HD, + 2 random rotating paid channels per month - a legacy service from the pre Freeview days.
