So while the S7090PVR can consume network content (DLNA etc) it cannot copy content to a network drive - rather you have to plug in a USB drive and copy manually. I dont mind the manual copy but I dont like having to plug things in and out.

Im trying to figure out a solution whereby I can leave a storage device connected to the PVR for copying off the device and making it accessible to the network.

Im looking at something like a HDD enclosure with ethernet (eg DM WFD027) Im just not sure if the drive can be accessible via USB when its simultaneously connected to the network.

Im wondering if anyone has any other ideas?

If it's Freeview approved then that's likely blocked, even if it's technically possible.

It is Freeview approved and it does allow content to be copied off to a USB drive. No problem there. The issue is having simultaneous access to the drive (write access from the PVR and read access via the network).

Ok, so kind of did a proof of concept. I have an ez Share WiFi SD card. If I plug this into a SD card reader, then into the PVR and then copy recordings off the PVR onto the SD card they are "accessible" over the ez Share WiFi access point. I can even stream the video over the ez Share Wifi to my phone using VLC.

A couple of issues which I guess a proper network HDD enclosure should fix;

1) The ez Share (since its meant for cameras) only searches in the DCIM directory. Might see if a directory junction will work.

2) The ez Share only searches one folder down (So DCIM\ABC\123.mpg is fine but not DCIM\ABC\DEF\123.mpg)

So I might take the plunge and get something a bit more robust.

Hi Trevor ... I too have been trying to achieve same thing for some time now ... ever since I replaced my desktop box with internet TV receiver card and using ProgDVB application. That application happily copied recordings to my NAS disks in .TS format.

Getting an all-in-one desktop now means I have to use an external TV receiver, and like you it is a Dish (S7070). Yes, it will only record to an external FAT32 drive (flash or hard), and I then plug the flash into my NAS or computer USB port, search the directories for the Video Folder, and copy the file across.

I've even tried using a switchable powered USB port for the flash drive, then connecting it to the NAS and/or computer ... no luck so far

Let us know of further experiments you carry out please.

PS Tried connecting PVR direct to NAS, but as you found out the PVR wants to format it to FAT32 first. I also tried using a powered external hard drive for recordings, which worked fine, but then could not get the computer to read the drive unless first disconnected from the PVR ... wouldn't work even using the switchable powered USB hub ... not sure why.

UPDATE: Got hold of an external drive enclosure that has USB, wifi, and Ethernet connections ... a sort of mini NAS.

I can now record off the Dish TV S7070r onto it, then turn on the network feature (separate power button) and view recorded files on my PC ... then easily copy/paste to NAS unit for viewing on TV.

It also works by making device Shareable and navigating the TV to that PC drive (of course have to drill down the directories, whereas with the copy/paste I just grab the MPG file.

Same processes could be achieved using a wifi connection too.
