Anyone have any plugins or settings etc for zooming to fill screen on some channels.

I realise it is the wrong thing to do as the image will be distorted and it was never meant to be displayed the way I am trying to display it on a wide screen television and yada yada yada but I still want to not see these black bars all the time if I can avoid it.

I know I will get a barrage of posts about how unnatural it is, or that I should just accept it and move on but I want to try and design some custom solutions for my own situation.

I am looking for something like the viewmodeswitched plugin in mediaportal or autocropper.
There are also custom settings that can be added to the config file in GBPVR so I am hoping someone is able to add settings to DVBviewer that accomplish the same thing.

What makes it difficult is the fact that all the Freeview channels send a fulltime 16:9 signal and display 4:3 content within a 16:9 frame.

If 4:3 material was sent tagged as 4:3 rather then it's a simple process to use the stretch mode to stretch this sideways to fill the whole 16:9 screen. Because the material is sent as 16:9 there is no simple way other than zoom which will chop off the top and bottom quite significantly. The best compromise if you really can't stand the bars is to use a 14:9 zoom which will at least partially get rid of them without stretching the images too much.

Yeah, well 14:9 didn't really seem to do the job. So if I stretch it proportionally to the edges of the screen I will lose information at the top and bottom correct?
Is there no way to set up a compromise where it is slightly overstretched sideways and cut minimally top and bottom?
Or as 14:9 is nearly there, zoom that slightly more.

No, freeview is all set up for widescreen displays with the broadcasters pillarboxing the 4:3 stuff.

It is my understanding that there should be 16:9 stuff coming thru on almost all US tv shows soon since they are under huge pressure from all overseas broadcasters to deliver it, its just the remaining SD cable shows that will never move, like daily show etc since they are not made in HD or widescreen, which is why the ones off bittorrent are also not widescreen.

The only reason I can see to want to zoom it is for when there is something that is letterboxed then pillarboxed coming up as a postagestamp in the middle of the screen. this should also happen less and less, and its mainly ads that have the problem so who cares ;)
