Is 1 News now finally in HD on Freeview/Sky?  Studio shots and graphics looking much sharper.  Can see the individual grey hairs on Simon's head lol.

EDIT:  Answered my own question, this wasn't online when I searched yesterday...

Ready for your close up? TVNZ's Simon Dallow and Wendy Petrie go high definition

It's a shame they haven't concentrated on integrity in reporting instead of putting effort into this. But I guess it was to be expected - just as ridiculous levels of CGI has been used to distract people from the lack of credible storylines in movies.

I feel we are being let down badly by the lack of real current news being reported. For example, when house prices were rising, and properties were  selling quickly, these were top stories on the news. Banks, real estate agents etc were benefiting a lot from this. However now that sales volumes have dropped, and prices are coming back a bit in Auckland, I haven't seen any coverage of this on TV. Infact the opposite is occurring in the paper where they are reporting stories on young people who have found great success by managing to buy their first home. I do wonder who is making the decisions on what news to actually cover.  Not reporting on important stuff IMO is almost as bad is fake news, which is also occurring more and more. It seems that the tv news has become very tabloid, and reporting a lot of celebrity stuff, and even showing popular youtube videos, that go 'viral'. Not only that, but a lot of the overseas filler news can be weeks old, and just recycled off the BBC etc. How about the 'real' news in NZ.

Flashy graphics now in high(er) definition? That's progress I guess.

I hope they tell all their presenters to use more teeth whitening gel also. wink

Not sure if it is much progress, especially as broadcasters are now moving, or have moved to, 4k. You only need to look on youtube, and many new video publishers are now in 4k, and many are now in 4k 60 fps. Not that freeview could actually cope with that resolution?
