Does anyone know if the sports extra channel will be upgraded to HD for the olympics?

I mentioned this the other day elsewhere and the assumption by several other people was that the Kordia HD channel would probably carry the Olympics HD coverage along with TV1. It wouldn't make sence to upgrade the channel just for the Olympics but TVNZ have talked up the Olympics in HD so probably couldn't get away with only trannsmitting HD content on TV1 and then SD 24/7 on Sports Extra!

DTT is split onto 3 Muxes with different owners
  • TVNZ
  • MediaWorks
  • Kordia

For TVNZ to borrow the Kordia HD channel they would have to do a deal with Kordia.

The other option would be to drop TV2 to SD for the duration of the Olympics and drive Sports Extra in HD.

is there not enough "bandwidth" to have all 3 stations on the TVNZ mux running in HD?
