Hi Guys,
Im looking to put together a HTPC and have a just a few questions?

I am looking to do this on the cheap (not the cheap cheap) but something that will get me going with a bit of headroom to upgrade maybe ( iwas thinking along the lines of the new AMD 780G chipset route) i deffo wont be playing games nad i am not too fussy for it to be looking like some Bang & Olufsen set up. I was originally looking at a doctored xbox

Other thing is i only have a 28" sony Vega CRT with component inputs and a Sony Suround system with DVD with only a left and right audio connection (no digital connections). However over time they will be getting upgraded...

I want to connect into my home LAN. i run class G wireless (my router can run class N) i currently have NAS connected to the lan that i want to store eveything on and be able to get to and use for storage.

1. How low (cheap) can i go with the components?
2. I have Sky that i would like to take advantage of. Can i spilt the cable from the dish and feed into the new box and take a signal from that? Wnd what sort of channels / features could i get with no messing about with the dish etc.
3. Has anyone used a linux variant instead of MCE such as MythTV successfully.
4. What additional software would i need? Are there any Open source options.
5. Based on my exisitng equipment what sort of storage will i be needing for recording movies, tv etc. I have 500gb on-line at the minute but there is capacity to load up with drives to 3TB.
6. How would the PVR work?
7. Tuner card recommendations?
8. Has anyone successfully used NGRC with their pocket pc?

I know most of this is probably covered but i am struggling to find info that would allow me to connect my old gear to it and still have the option to upgrade later. I might end up with a box with a hundred connectors on the back of it. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

PS i think i might of posted this in the wrong forum.....
