I've got an old TV which we would like to use for live freeview. Has anyone had any experience with Aliexpress DV-T receivers as it's really hard to justify $100 for an STB for an old TV.

DishTV have refurbished boxes at good prices ... I've had one for nearly a year with no problems at all.

Thats up to your TV .. the box I linked to isnt the one I have (I have HDMI inputs), but they list Component output so if your TV can take a 1080 then it should work

Yes my TV does HD over component but all the STBs I've looked  at over the past few years only do SD over component.  I do have two HDMI ports on the TV but they won't auto switch via a Harmony remote but component do..

Thanks all. Has anyone tried a generic DVB-T box from Ali express? I know the horrible Freeview EPG won't work but I'm not too fussed about that.

I've got one of these which works just fine including the EPG on Sat and UHF Tuners.

Much better updated models available now.

Save the potential loss of money - just purchase a real Freeview unit.

I've got an aerialBox Mini T1000 (Freeview HD unit) - yours for $30 delivered since it has just been sitting around here, just flick me a PM.

Have used one from Aliexpress - many models have the "inside the box stuff" the same, and the same on screen GUI. Does do HD over component. Correct that EPG doesn't work properly, but easy to do manual timer recordings. Only issue is that there is a very small non-sync in recorded programs, (which needs to be done on external drive). Audio slightly delayed to video, but not really enough to be an issue. Playback is great for media files, mkv etc.
