This must be good news for those not in range of Freeview UHF.

Wow it can record 2 HD channel at once. WOw technology from 2012~!!

My receiver from that era can record up to 4 channels per transponder, at the same time thats 8 recordings at the same time. Why is this new product so limited

Probably because they see more merit in the other technology (eg streaming rather that FTA)

I can see a market for this (I like my Panny terrestrial box), but not a big one.

Namely people who use Freeview, are on satellite because they can't get terrestrial coverage, and are non-techie so want a simple and reliable supported box from a well-known manufacturer. I have an elderly relative who fits that definition. Twin tuner, with recording, in a reliable and straightforward unit is perfect for them and all they need.

It's basically in the same market niche as the Dish twin-tuner units (with the addition of Netflix). But Panasonic is a better known brand, with a reputation for quality.

There is a nice shiny Silver Panny box currently on sale in OZ.  Now that model has a triple, tuner/recording facility plus lots of other useful features....now THAT would be a nice addition to the models on sale in NZ....

Hurry up Panasonic NZ, get this model on sale here.....(clicky-linky thing here...!)

I don't want no sugar in it - thank you very much

Yeah but a Twin Tuner doesn't need to be limited to only recording 2 channels at a time  the tech shouldnt limit you to recording a single channel inside the transport stream.

Looks good but it's Terrestrial only, not Satellite Tuners. The Sat one will likely be real competition for DISH TV if it's as reliable as their other products.

Panasonic Satellite HDD Recorder DMR-HST270GZ

A friend is looking to buy one of these as he is dumping Sky and only has a Satellite dish and he is upgrading to fibre installed by Spark and getting their "Unplan Entertainment 100 package".

Questions:

  1. What has the OP @B1GGLZ experience been with this product?
  2. Besides Netflix does it have TVNZ Ondemand, Lightbox, YouTube, Amazon Prime App?
  3. He already has Multi-room (lounge bedroom) Sky will this box do the same?
    OR
  4. would my friend be better off getting a UHF aerial installed?
    AND
  5. getting a terrestrial Panasonic FreeView recorder DMR-HWT260 or DMR-PWT560?
  6. what are peoples thoughts on either of these Panasonic boxes?
    OR
  7. would he be better off getting a cheap Freeview recorder box and buying a Chromecast Ultra or Apple TV 4k which has a myriad of ever updating Apps as opposed to the Panasonic which seem to stop updating after two years?
  8. If buying a Panasonic can this device be control via a tablet or phone instead of the supplied remotes?

He is so used to the Satellite Sky Freeview recorder box etc and is a little bit of a tech Luddite

Cheers

We're on DVB-S, and this past weekend is probably the first time the Freeview box has been turned on for more than 30mins in years.  Was surprised I wasn't smelling anything burning from it. What is on "live" TV these days that you cant get via the on-demand websites ?

Well it's free for a start, no cost and no need for any IP account.

None. I don't use Satellite. In fact the only live TV I watch now is the news. I was just indicating it would be useful for people not in UHF coverage.

I don't know why anyone would watch a crappy satellite picture if they are in UHF coverage.

Thank you, sorry I thought you had bought it or was only to.

Has any forum members this product?

There aren't any HD channels to record, are there?

It's also about time Freeview upgraded their satellite service beyond 1990s tech. 🙁

It should have been mandatory (if it isn’t already) for years now that all new boxes support DVBS 2.
They cant just upgrade as that would leave almost all boxes obsolete.
