Hey guys,

Newbie question.

I just purchased this cheapie tv for a guest room https://www.thewarehouse.co.nz/p/veon-32-inch-hd-led-lcd-tv-sro322016/R2126917.html

On the box it says UHF Freeview, and I’ve just got home and noticed I have satellite. So I’m fairly sure the tv won’t work on its own...

However I do have a spare satellite decoder, which I could use. But before I got through this giant mess of wires and trial and error (new house, with 6 cables coming out of the wall behind the tv!?), can I use a satellite decoder on a TV which says on the box Freeview for UHF ready?

Cheers!

A satellite decoder needs a correctly aligned satellite dish. If you don't have a dish, the decoder won't work. The decoder has various outputs that work with any TV that has corresponding inputs. These days it is nearly always HDMI. If you have an HDMI output on the decoder and an HDMI input on the TV (you will unless they are very old) then the decoder will work with the TV, regardless of whether it is UHF Freeview or not. If your decoder does not have HDMI out, you should replace it, but it may have AV or RF outputs that might work with the TV.

Your TV should work with a UHF antenna, if you have one. It will work with a satellite decoder if you have a satellite dish. You need one or the other.

the output from the decoder will be HDMI or RCA so will plug into your TV if it has any of those inputs.

the TV says UHF as thats the type of signal it can take in and use on its inbuilt decoder.

think you need to figure out the cables you have avalible. Given a new house... likley one will be the UHF.

Take some pictures... and do all these cables go back to somewhere central?
