One of the reasons I don't like Daylight Savings Time is because it always confuses something electronic. Yes, the computers all make the adjustment, but the generic Freeview programme guide doesn't. Right now it thinks everything is an hour later. I have an Android box for satellite and terrestrial TV, and Kodi on Windows does the same thing. This isn't life-changing but it is annoying. I think it fixed itself after awhile last time. Different parts of the world switch at different times and the EPG may be on North American DST, though that seems odd since it is the guide for New Zealand (and Australia). I have looked around but there seems to be no way to adjust this. The Android box is correctly set, as are the Windows computers.What can others tell me about this? Is there any way to fix it?

Have you forced an EPG update since yesterday morning? In many cases the problem is the EPG then ends up an hour out.

The EPG on my kodi box is fine (Matt Huismans EPG), the EPG on my Dish tv box is fine. both updated themselves for DST.

are you sure that your device has correctly changed its time for daylight savings?

I have a number of different devices on different platforms but they all seem to have the same problem. I don't get it. Each is set to the correct time but the EPG is off everywhere, also Huisman. Here's the rundown:

Main computer running Win 7, Kodi 17.6, Huisman EPG off by one hour

Laptop Win 10, also same Kodi and EPG, also off.

Android Mecool device for satellite and terrestrial, nothing to do with Kodi, also off one hour

Shield, also off

etc.

All of these devices are set to the correct system time but all have the same issue with the EPG. This has to be something obvious but I don't see it.

OK, this is weird. The TV (Mecool Android box) just suddenly switched to the correct DST offset but the other devices are still off an hour. I don't have a clue would could be causing this.

Edit: Something just occurred to me. I was switching between devices and the Mecool rebooted. That was when the time corrected. I suspect something like this may also be affecting the other devices. They may just need proper shutdown and reboot. Otherwise I don't know what could be causing this.

Do you have the correct time zone selected on each device, or are you manually altering the time for DST?

Time zone settings are correct. Rebooting is the answer, though I don't know why. I just rebooted the Shield and now the EPG on it is also correct. Normally I don't shut the Android things down. I just cut the power. Apparently that prevents them from updating the EPG offset (or whatever). I don't know what mechanism is in play here.

I also have Kodi on my Windows laptop but rebooting hasn't helped there. It is still off by an hour. Go figure. I will keep playing with it.

OK, the laptop turns out to be something completely different. For some reason the time offset was set in Simple Client.

Bingo! Well done. I never would have thought of that. The router (B315) is indeed off by an hour. However, all settings are correct, including the DST tick. It should have shifted but didn't. Maybe it also has to be rebooted but it is a pain because of the location. I can set it manually but of course then I will have to do it again in six months. Thanks very much for the help.

Everything on the router is set correctly, including sync from network. The only possible thing I can see is the primary NTP server, which is set to clock.fmt.he.net. Is that wrong?

I have a teensy tiny problem. More a matter of curiosity than anything else.

My router was showing the wrong time but then it corrected itself for some reason and has been fine since. I have checked it several times. Two of my three Android boxes are also showing the correct time in their EPGs. But one device, which happens to be the one we use for viewing NZ FTA, is still getting it wrong.

The device is a Mecool box that receives both satellite and terrestrial. Normally we don't do a graceful shutdown. With our setup, it is much easier to just cut the power at the wall and we have done it this way for years. The Windows media computer used to have a problem with that but the devices we use now (Android, TV, Blu-Ray, receiver, switches) have never complained.

The problem is that the Mecool device keeps coming on with the wrong EPG time. The device itself remembers the DST change correctly but the EPG is always off an hour. We also have a Shield that we use for IPTV streaming, and the EPG on that is correct though there was an initial problem. If I reboot the Mecool after powering it up, it comes back with the correct EPG time but when it first cold starts the time is always off by an hour. So the problem is easily fixable by rebooting, which is why it is not a biggie, but the problem didn't exist before and I don't understand what is causing it. For whatever reason my equipment has never handled the time change well, but it has always settled down after a few days. Except for this time.

As I say, this is more a matter of curiosity than a real problem. So how does an Android box like the Mecool get its EPG information? Although I can change the system time without problem, I can't find any setting to adjust the EPG. It is off on both DTV-S and DTV-T so I assume the time offset is managed by the box though I don't know. We generally get the full EPG though sometimes it is partially truncated. So why is the time correct after rebooting but not when first powering up? Is this something that can be fixed? It didn't used to do this.

Pardon for high jacking but on the topic of FreeView EPG, their app grammatical shows the incorrect time format. I sent them an email the other day:

There is a grammatical design error in the Freeview App when it comes to the notation of the time in the Search results and I thought I would point out the correct way to write time when you are using the am & pm suffix abbreviation for the 12 hour clock, which you are using in the Search results.

CORRECT
6:15 am or 6.15 pm or 6:00 am or 6:00 pm

INCORRECT

06:15 am or 06:15 pm or 06:00 am or 06:00 pm

There is no preceding zero for single digit hours when using the 12 hour clock am & pm suffix abbreviation. Note: to place or not to place a space after the minute numeral is optional but there must be consistency. But you must use the colon as a separator.

However if you are using the 24 hour clock there is a preceding zero for single digit hours but there is no am & pm suffix abbreviation.

06:30 and of course 18:30

NOTE: 00:00 or 24:00 both are acceptable, also the use of the colon separator is optional.

I point out this Freeview App grammatical design error as it always occurs in the Search results;

e.g.

Title: The Chase

Show Starts: 05:00 PM - Sat 06 Apr

Duration: 60 mins

It should read:

Title: The Chase

Show Starts: 5:00 PM - Sat 06 Apr

Duration: 60 mins

Rather than constant rebooting, why don’t you reset to default, rescan etc & hopefully that will fix it.
