Hi

The standalone codec from MPC HC X86 does hardware acceleration on my ATI HD3200 with Mediaportal and XP Pro SP2

Goto Media Player Classic Home Cinema External Filters for X86 (XP)

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=170561&package_id=264678

Download

mpchc_x86_v1.1.604.0_MPCVideoDec.zip

Save the file in C:\Windows\System32

Click Start -> Run

Then type

regsvr32 MPCVideoDec.ax

You should get the message that the file is registered

Then open Mediaportal Configuration

Goto Television and change the H264 codec to MPCVideoDec

**************************

If you have problems you can type

regsvr32 -u MPCVideoDec.ax

To unregister the codec

**************************

EDIT: THE ABOVE DOESN'T WORK - SEE POST BELOW, PERHAPS MEDIAPORTAL WAS STILL USING PDVD8 DESPITE HAVING MPCVIDEODEC SELECTED UNDER H264 (AS SUGGESTED BY MCRAENZ)

Are you sure this is working? I couldn't get the pins to connect in graphedit and while I could select the codec in MediaPortal it was still using the cyberlink decoder as shown by grphedit "Connect to remote graph"

I've pointed this out 3 times now and no one took notice.
I've had sucess with it on my 4850, 8500 and probably 9600 if i tried. Seems to be slightly lower CPU Usage playing the samples in MPC-HC.
Tried it in mediaportal and im getting similar results to PDVD8, so i wonder if its falling back on that because of the issue mcraenz mentioned.

I had to install the 64bit version to match my OS,  I goes, but,  my h2600xt still goes all green on hardware decoding.

You really have to use graphedit to confirm what codecs are being used (Or uninstall all other h.264 codecs on the system!).
Thing is, h.264 codecs are not so interchangeable as MPEG2 codecs and often support for a specific codec needs to be factored in to the code of the player.

Why is this thread sticky?

Agree can the sticky please be removed unless it is confirmed that this codec does in fact work.

Even then I would prefer to see a thread with all H264 codecs and if they work or not in which situations and cost.

I can remove the sticky. The question really is who decides to make it sticky then?

As for the suggestio, it is a good one. Who can start the thread?

Hi

i did have pdvd8 installed prior to running the mpc-hc external filter, so it is possible that mediaportal is not using the mpc-hc codec even though i have selected it.

is graphedit a standalone exe or do i need to install it?
if it doesn't need to install i will run graphedit to see which codec is installed.

Mike

NB - I can verify that MPC HC X86 (XP Pro SP2) standalone with internal filters definitely does hardware accleration (ATI HD3200) with mkv files, as previously i had no codecs installed.

Hi,

I use this codec built into MPC-HC to play some .mkv files, but haven't tried it with .ts files.  I had read somewhere that the codec didn't work with .ts files due to the way the pins were configured or something.  Will give it a try tonight.

I thought there already was one  http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=84

I'm not pushing my own barrow, as anyone who knows me, knows its not the sort of thing I'm into. No-one was more surprised to find it tackified.

I believe this thread topic is far more related to HTPCs as opposed to the DVB forum, which should be reserved strictly for DVB-* signals, set-top boxes & anything else unrelated to computers, which has its own forum. I have found over recent weeks that there appears to be more of a crossing-over of posts, between the forums, which is becoming confusing as people don't seem to know where to post. Any HTPC-related threads should be moved over to the HTPC forum. That's just my 5 cents.

Firstly,

Apologies if posting to the wrong forum.  I usually post in HTPC, but i noticed a few threads on DVB-T Codecs so thought it was appropriate.

Secondly,

I just did a reformat for XP Pro SP2 (Xpress Recover2 failed when restoring my install, and killed the partition)

Although I can verify that MPC-HC (X86) using internal filters can decode with H.A. all my h264/AVC mkv movie files in XP SP2 without any codecs using the onboard ATI HD3200.  I havn't tried MPC-HC with .ts files.

If you only register MPCVideoDec.ax codec then you will not get any picture with a H264 DVB-T stream in mediaportal.
I am guessing that for some reason MP was still using the PDVD8 codecs, even though i selected MPCVideoDec for H264.

I havn't tried registering all of the MPC-HC external filters (I couldn't be bothered, and the fiancee is getting angry!) There is a possibility that if you register all the filters things may work with DVB-T, unfortunately I don't know what all the filters do, so I'm unsure if installing the other filters would help or not.

I tried out MPC-HC with both Windows Vista and Windows XP with my Athlon 3200+ and Nvidia 8400GS system with interesting results....

playing MKV in vista cpu up at 90%, while in WinXP the CPU was down at 10-20%. didnt seem to matter if i left mpc-hc at default, vmr9 or EVR, the dxva flags were definately enabled in both cases and ffdshow was not installed on vista.

playing .TS in Vista - cpu @ 100%, in WinXP 5-15%.  The video was crap quality though - more so in WinXP

sound didnt seem to work on any of the .ts files except for some pops and squeaks on the tv3 freeview sample (monogram aac decoder is installed)
