Hi Guys

just spend tooo much $$ on this new TV and now I'm faced with a new dilemma...

With the freeview HD decoder thingy inside the TV what are my best options to record my Fav TV shows?

Have done a search and many recommend a decoder with HDD obviously I don't need a decoder so are my options limited to

1- DVD recorder ( that won't record in HD anyway )

or

2- HTPC? if so what are the recommended specs?

thks! now if the new UHF aerial was setup as well.....................

Wait till a PVR HD box becomes available, or someone sorts the firmware out for the zinewel to take a USB HDD and have all the other stuff working.

yeah that would be nice but will probably costs $$$ any other cheaper options i can consider???????/

i guess i can still record using vcr but it seems like a waste of my TV sob sob .........................

Welcome to the world of high definition and the copy protection that goes along with it. You pretty much can't get a high definition signal out of the TV decoder to record it, especially into a HTPC, your only option here pretty much is a recording device with an integrated tuner.

mmm..from the sound of things

i'll have to buy another freeview setup box with the freeview tuner to record in HD even though i have the freeview inbuilt in the TV................doesn't sound very good to me

what say I just want to record and not too fuss on the quality?

VCR DVD RECORDER HTPC - they will all work - right? but just not recording in HD

does that pretty much sums it up?

A set top box won't do things any different - the reallity is at present the only way to record HD content is to use a HTPC. There are no HDD recorders that do H.264 but expect to see units on the market before Xmas.

These are about the minimum specs and are certainly not high end. Apart from the OS (Vista is preferrable but XP is OK) the PC components are now all low end components. As for tuner cards you really only need a single card with a Hauppauge HVR2200 being the pick at present since it's dual tuner.

If you don't have hours to waste I would suggest that building a HTPC for Freeview|HD is not a wise move - nothing is more guaranteed to cause frustration!

haha i know what u mean - i've assembled pc's and that was bad enuff! nahhh just maybe get the right parts and get my local PC shop to do it for me

where would i find more info on the system i need - also the tuner card is for TV right not necessary built for freeview?

dual tuner - can u elaborate on that?

if indeed it's too much trouble - I'll go back to VCR and DVD-Recorder in analogue

It is not unlike the old days when you had an analog tuner built in to your TV but you still had to buy a VCR/DVD recorder.

The Hyundai/HDT AH3100 HD will apparently record the HD stream to USB HDD. Apparently. Not available yet though.

whooooahhh... u guys give me too much credit on the lingo - : ) pls c if i've got this right

dvb-s setup which mean i'll have to buy the

-DVB-S digital Satellite instead of the UHF aerial and have it installed
-buy the box from TM at approx $130 is this something like this - "Satellite Freeview Receiver with PVR Function"
-but a external USB HDD

my things is I've just bought a UHF aerial and had it installed and the Sony TV only has the Freeview HD - so if i really wanted to record these 2 things would become superfluous - : (

oh hi Cyril - have read a few postings from u with regards to freeview and u seem quite knowledgable on it but what is the $100k+ encoder u mean or was it suppose to be $100+ (with the k??)

so if i actually wanted to record off my inbuilt freeview HD decoder using the DVB-T system - I'm ***ked - does that pretty much sums it up?

Or you could wait for the Hyundai model which is a DVB-T / DVB-S combo with USB PVR.
