Having problems with my remote for the DMR HWT260. The blue play and fast forward buttons do not respond when pressed. I have to press them several times to get them to work. I have changed the batteries and the other buttons do not appear to have this problem.

Do I need to get a new remote and if so where would I find one?

I got my panasonic remote from https://www.needapart.co.nz/buy-online/parts-for/panasonic-dmr-hwt260

It might help in the interim to pry open the remote and clean the offending contacts with alcohol if there is any gunk

or the contacts are tarnished.   But believe me its not easy to get it open and I ended having ugly

screwdriver marks on the sides.  Finally I gave up and bought the exact replacement

cheers

I have been on contact with Panasonic and they want me to send the remote to them so they judge if they should replace it. I will let you know the outcome.

Also for future reference I found that new remotes for this device are available from pro_video on trademe At what looks a reasonable price

So the guys at Panasonic received the remote I sent them the next morning and found that it had suffered liquid damage.

They were able to clean it and had it back to me the next day.

It now works!

And there was no charge.

Thank you Panasonic!

I was having the same problem and found this thread. Your answer was helpful as I wondered if I was also seeing liquid damage. I thought it would be easy to check at home, despite an earlier reply mentioning the difficulty in prising off the keypad. It certainly wasn't like a knife through butter but, with a wide flat head precision screwdriver, it wasn't too difficult to prise off. The marks left were only superficial and nothing to worry about. Once the top was off, it was obvious that some kind of moisture had settled around the video control buttons and it wiped off easily with a cloth and methylated spirits. I can't see how the moisture got in there and it was difficult to wipe off the moisture on the back of the rubber buttons; even leaving overnight didn't dry it up completely, so it may have had some grease in it but once I put everything back, the remote worked well, which is a relief.

How the moisture got in there, or what it actually is (possibly sweat), is a mystery. Certainly looks like it may be a common issue though, with it collecting around the video control buttons, which are probably the most used buttons.

Thanks to all repliers.

Be prepared for the problem to reoccur. I gave up this time and ordered a new remote from pro-vision on Trade Me.
