Is anyone experiencing issues with the TVNZ Freeview HD channels at the moment?  A real blocky and unwatchable picture?  This is only affecting TV One, TV2, TVNZ 6, TVNZ 7, and TVNZ Sports Extra.  All other channels are fine.

As of this morning my TVNZ Freeview HD channels had improved slightly, but still totally unwatchable.  Is no one else getting this issue?

I'm in the Auckland area, btw.  St Marys Bay.

I've got no problem on the TVNZ mux, but I am having troubles with Kordia (Māori channel).  I'm off the Pinehill transmitter though.  I've got 1/2 to 2/3 strength, but the quality keeps dropping to 0 and giving me pixellation.  I've not had a problem until now.

Neither of you bother to mention the antenna concerned, number of elements, the forward gain, the type of coax etc. DVB-T has certain minimum requirements to work correctly, to make sure you meet these minimum requirements call an antenna installer and get their advice because believe me there is nothing wrong with the signal.

Probably because neither of us understand what the hell you are on about.  If you cannot be helpful, please do not respond at all.  My setup was working just fine until last night.  I was simply trying to find out if anyone else was experiencing the same issue before I needed to throw money at the problem.  Not an unreasonable approach...

TVNZ signal is fine for myself. Aerial also pointing towards Waiatarua tower. But I, too, am having issues with TV3/C4 signal. It seems to be mainly on Wednesday nights when I have multiple tuners working, so it may have something to do with that. Will have to spend some time investigating.

Hi Fossie,

I'm using the DSE (aka Zinwell) STB.

Does anyone experience a delay in the subtitles being displayed on Tv One? The subtitles are displayed 10 seconds later than they are supposed to. This is happening on TV One only ! TV2 and 6/7 subtitles (when available) are just fine. Same delay applies to both recorded shows and live tv.

The problem came back last night.  TVNZ channels all blocky and stuttering again.  Anyone else?

First up is your STB hot?

Second - have you tried resetting the STB

Next what is your signal strength and quality like.

Sounds like either an STB or reception issue as I haven't heard any broadcast problems

Hi there.  Thanks for the response.  My responses below:

openmedia:

First up is your STB hot?

It sits in standby.  I turned it on from standby so assume it was relatively cold.  But I'll check when I get home tonight.

Second - have you tried resetting the STB

By resetting do you mean unplugging it from the wall for a minute or two?  If so, yes.

Next what is your signal strength and quality like.

How do I check signal strength and quality?  It is the little black DSE (aka Zinwell) STB.

Sounds like either an STB or reception issue as I haven't heard any broadcast problems

I didn't consider it being a hardware issue.  I've got DVBViewer running downstairs on my HTPC off the same UHF aerial.  Next time the problem occurs I'll fire up DVBViewer to see if indeed it is the reception or hardware.

Hi Satch, on the Zinwell/DSE boxs to check the signal, go into the installation menu setup and then to manual tune.

Once there you should find a display with two bar graph meters for signal and quality. Use the side arrows on the remote cursor control to change the channel to 29,33 and 45. The TVNZ channels are on 29, Canweston 33 and others on 45, when at each of these channels look at the signal and quality, normally you can getby with signal levels that are quite low, but the quality gas meter will want to be in the 80% plus region to get reliable reception. See how these compare between the three channels.
