I purchased a express HC82R from avermedia and managed to scan the channels from the AverTv program.
When i go to view the channel it just has a black screen ???? It says it connected to the channel.

Sounds like the software you are using doesn't support H.264 or AAC audio which we use in NZ.
The resellers who have TV cards that suppoirt NZ's DVB-T format are typically labelling their packaging to say this, does your box say this or does the software say it supports New Zealand? Have you checked to see that a newwer version of software is available?
To be completely honest you are better off looking at GB-PVR, Media Portal or DVBViewer, I've played with a few cards that say they have support for NZ and none have software that supports EPG or hardware acceleration which is pretty much essential to watch H.264 broadcasts.
s.joseph: I just downgraded the software and it works, quite stuttery on some channels. Could be because i have a 2ghz Turion when it requires a 2.4 ghz intel???? But my cpu usage is only on 60%.
Anyway im downloading GBPVR il see how that goes.. Thanks
GB-PVR works perfectly. You do need to install a H.264 codec and Monogram AAC codec.
The avermedia software doesn't do H.264 hardware acceleration, only MPEG2.
You really do need to read many of the forums regarding DVB-T, setting up a reliable rock solid PVR solution for H.264 is an easy way to waste your evenings for a few weeks.
s.joseph: Thanks for putting up with me but my device ins't listed in the GBPVR tuner utility.
