Now that the Listener is dead, does anyone have any ideas about where to get lists and reviews of (particularly) films on Freeview for a week or two in advance?
For example - in the absence of humans doing it - I'm wondering about web scrapers linked to review sites?

Go straight to the source, tvnz.co.nz, tv3.co.nz, then copy/paste into IMDB for ratings?

I didn't know the Listener was still alive until this weeks announcement.

The FreeView app is shocking and I told them so last major update when they took away the General Search facility from the main front TV Guide page. Now you have to click the Hamburger, Browse by and select one of 8 genres and then within a genre, type in the search term.

iMac 27" [14.2] (late 2013), Airport Time Capsule 5th gen, iPhone13 x 2, iPad6, iPad Mini5, Spark Smart Modem 1st Gen

Panasonic TV Viera TH-L50E6Z (1080p), Panasonic Blu-ray PVR DMR-BWT835, Yamaha AVR RX-V1085 [6.1 Surround Speaker System], Apple TV 4k 64Gb (2nd gen)

Kia Sportage Urban EX (2019), Suzuki Swift SR7 (2011)

The difficult we can do immediately. The impossible takes a bit longer. But Miracles you will have to wait for.

Skys guide app works well, and includes freeview channels. You can set up favourites to “hide” the sky channels.

That wont help with reviews though.

I've lost a year's subscription 🤣

I use TVNow (https://home.nzcity.co.nz/tvnow/tvguide.aspx) for quick references, but sadly no reviews.

I have had this email from Bauer. So don't worry about your subscription yet.

Thank you for your email regarding The Listener magazine.

It is with great sadness that we have made the very difficult decision to discontinue our publishing business in New Zealand and close operations here.

We would like to sincerely thank you for your loyal support of our magazines.

A number of parties have expressed interest in purchasing our magazines and we are working very hard to try and achieve a sale.  We are hopeful that some or all of the magazines will restart under new ownership and you will be able to continue your subscription with that new owner.

If you are an existing magazine subscriber, you do not need to take any action now.

If your subscription has a direct debit payment coming up or an auto renewal due, these processes have now been suspended.

We are currently reviewing the subscription agreements and will be in touch with you within two weeks regarding the next steps. You can contact us at magshop@magshop.co.nz.

Once again, we thank you for your support and request your understanding as we work through the sale process.

We will continue to update you as soon as we can.

Kind Regards,

Well, it has been freely available (and free) until this week for anyone whose library offers PressReader (or, I think, RB Digital) access, so not like it’s difficult to source.

And it’s apparently one of only two in Bauer’s NZ stable that was making money, thanks in no small part to its high subscriber numbers relative to reliance on ad revenue.

There’s still some hope the title will be bought and rescued, as it’s certainly one of the more valuable magazines in NZ, despite some not being aware of it!

Thank you for all the suggestions - I'll investigate them.

I might also do a web scraper on one, just to see.

And we have not had an email from Bauer/Magshop, which is a bit strange.

Let us know about the web scraper please.

The email from Bauer was in response to one from me enquiring about my subscription.

@Bananabob … thanks for the subscription update as I've had no communication from MagShop or Bauer as yet.

Neither have I, but what @Bananabob quoted above is on their MagShop web site.
