Hi guys, i am trying to install mediaportal for the first time and it's not letting me past the "setup database connection" box. I have entered the default password as per guide.
Running vista ultimate 32.

Just making sure that during the SQL database install you didn't set a custom password. Also, did you set it to mixed mode during the same install? Not sure what else could cause the issue.

Are you sure you are putting it in properly, it is caps sensitive. So it should be 'MediaPortal'.

Yep, that was it, good old capital p. Now that it's working i really don't like how clunky feeling it is.
Thanks for the help.

Sounds like your just going to use something else, however ifyou are willing to give it a try: some more info? Like your computer specs, what exactly you find 'clunky' about it?

Can you make it a little box in the corner of your screen and keep always on top? or do you have to put up with massive amounts of blue everywhere?
Powercinema came with my card but when installed it just hangs everysingle time. Gbpvr worked initially but all of a sudden it left unexplainably. DVBviewer trial anywhere?
Sorry, its an hvr 2200 running on dual core 3.16gh vista ultimate 32.

Ah you want to use it in windowed mode? There are options for that under 'General'  in MediaPortal configuration, however it isn't really designed to be used un-maximised. In fact all similar programs (MP, MythTV, VMC, GB-PVR) are the same in that regard, they are designed for what is referred to as the "10' GUI'.
However you will find in the options I mentioned the ability to start MP in windowed  mode, as well as keep on top. Wether that is usable for you though I don't know, video will always be better maximised (especially when you are talking about HD!).
