Anybody notice the dearth of HD content these days? TV3 used to be the flagship (if that's what it could be called) but now there's hardly any HD programming. Perhaps because of Xmas? Makes it really hard to justify purchasing a HD tuner

Yip. Hopefully there will be more HD stuff on in the new year. It doesn't help that they put rubbish on over the xmas break.
Still, Gladiator looked really good the other night.

Yes Gladiator did....even though it was listed as HD=N in the listings.

So either they have some really good upscaling, or the listings were wrong.

I have actually been quite impressed by some of the upscaling that TV2 does but of course upscaled or HD, it's all stereo. When TV3 upscales a movie, do they still broadcast 5.1 audio or it is stereo on both audio tracks?

Not sure...  My new telly doesn't seem to have an audio selection button, and to make life easier I've told GBPVR to use the AAC stream for audio (means no popcorn, but I have the HD channels as seperate channels to the DVB-S anyway).

I need to wait for something coming out with 5.1 to see if i can an audio selection button on the telly.  Home Alone movies are supposed to be in HD, I think tonight and tomorrow night.

Yep. It's been a real disappointment since the Olympics finished.  TVNZ even pulled AC3 audio from TVNZ1..  Anyone who asks me whether to get a separate HD box is told that if they have Sky get a Mysky HD1.  way more HD content in one day than the others have in a week...

I suspect that the fact that Mediaworks is now owned by an Australian bean counter company, Ironbridge  they will no longer lead the charge to HD like they were going under Canwest ownership..

Just checked the Freeview web site. On the page that lists HD programming I am not sure that any of those programmes are actually on now!
