I've had Freeview DVB-S setup for some time now and have really been enjoying it. I bought a dish, LNB and all the bits and had it all setup in no time. Piece of cake.

So I thought to myself, it's about time I got Freeview DVB-T working. I connected it up to my DVB-T card and it found all 12 channels, but there was a lot of pixelation and stutter due to poor signal. The current UHF aerial was fairly rusted, so I bought a new 91 element from jaycar and put it up. Still had bad signal. So I thought I'd better replace the coax with some decent RG6 quad shield. Still had bad signal. Ok, I must need a masthead amp, so I picked up one of those. Aargh, still bad signal.

I'm about to admit defeat and throw in the towel, or maybe call in an expert, but before I do does anybody have any good suggestions? I live in Unsworth Heights on the North Shore and cannot see either Pinehill or Waiatarua.

Alternatively does anybody know any good aerial installation people?

Cheers guys

What software are you trying to use? What H.264 codec are you using? Assuming it's PowerDVD9 do you have the latest patches to fix the known ATI issues and are you running the latest version of the Catalyst drivers?

It's possiblr that you live in an area that just doesn't have Freeview|HD coverage - do you know if close neighbours receive Freeview|HD, or have you tried enering your address in the freeview coverage check to see what it says?

I am currently trialling a powered digital antenna in the Auckland area using both a Draco and Ultimate 880 HD box with good results in fringe areas. If you want I would be happy to test reception in your area to further my research. PM me if interested.

Unfortunately I don't know how much you can trust that site. It lists my old house in Whakatane as Unlikely, even though it ran flawlessly (once I realised that I had the aerial on the wrong polarity anyway!)

If you can, beg, borrow or steal a hardware decoder for an evening and see if you have better luck, at least it will determine if the issue is with your HTPC or your signal

I wouldn't trust the Freeview coverage checker to be absolutely correct, but it does seem to sensibly err on the side of caution - if it says Very Likely then the chances of not being able to receive Freeview|HD are slim, but if it says "Unlikely" there's still a chance that you can receive Freeview|HD.

If you already have a UHF aerial pointed at a suitable transmitter, the best approach is to borrow a Freeview|HD receiver for a hour or two if you know someone who owns one.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I ended up swapping out the ATI HD3850 I had in the HTPC for an Nvidia 9600GT and what do you know all the glitches went away. So sdibble was right, I've ditched the ATI and sticking with Nvidia for the media pc from now on.

This is taken from Kordias computer model that is supported by a reasonable level of feild testing.

Whakatane would only have a remote chance of seeing Te Aroha, which is well outside Te Arohas intended UHF coverage area, so I would say there advice is accurate, just because you managed to get some service 2doors along or change in atmospherics and its all over rover.
