Normally with my Zinwell HD freeview box & Denon Receiver TV3 switches to Dolby Digital.

But tonight switching to TV3 it stayed on stereo. Bringing up the info box showed AC3 but the receiver stayed on stereo?

Has anyone noticed an issue with the AC3 feed for TV3?

I only use the AC3 feed for my PVR here in Wellington. I'm just watching a recording of 3News now in AC3 and that's working fine.

Maybe I'm missing something -but apart from programs that have official AC3 tracks (like CSI Miami, which advertises the fact) I always get a stereo AC3 feed from TV3.

To be honest, for this reason I normally go with the HE-AAC audio feed, which gives me (matrixed) surround sound.  Not as good as the real thing, but I hate not getting sound (voice) through the centre speaker.

ps. I'm using Mediaportal

This was the behaviour with my Denon AVR 589 up until yesterday

TV1 & TV2
Digital signal indicator: on
Dolby Digital Signal indicator: off
Display: Stereo
Output from speakers: Stereo

TV3:
Digital signal indicator: on
Dolby Digital Signal indicator: on
Display: Dolby Digital
Output from speakers: 5.1 (quite quiet for non 5.1 stuff though)

However as of today this is what happens:

TV1 & TV2
Digital signal indicator: on
Dolby Digital Signal indicator: off
Display: Stereo
Output from speakers: Stereo

TV3:
Digital signal indicator: on
Dolby Digital Signal indicator: on
Display: Stereo
Output from speakers: Stereo

????? Even for CSI Miami it did this - its like the AC3 signal from the zinwell to the Denon isn't the same as yesterday. I tried out some DVD's and they still cause the denon to switch to Dolby?

it is all working fine now - it was a case of user error Embarassed

What normally happens is when I turn the setup on after work it is usually on TV1 and I switch it to 5 channel stereo - then it will automatically go to Dolby Digital if I change to TV3. But today it was already on TV3 and I disabled the Dolby Digital output by choosing 5 channel stereo.

Switching back to Standard mode on the remote put it back to full auto which reactivated Dolby Digital when switching to TV3.

I really must watch a show encoded for 5.1 to see how it sounds!
