I am looking for a cheap Freeview satellite decoder that can also play movies in mp4 and MKV format from a usb thumb drive. I am looking at a S7070 but info on playback is not very clear, can anyone advise?

That device has ability to record from satellite, and file is in MPG format.  The flash drive has to be FAT32.

 

I have just tried to use a flash drive externally loaded with an MP4 file, and the device rejects it ... I'm guessing the Dish TV S7070rHD is not designed to be used with files not originally recorded by it.

 

Your best bet is a simple media player.
