I noticed that freeview dvb-s has alot of artifacts lately especially in fast moving scenes, last week it looked alot better, now it looks like a bad sky channel, or a divx, almost unwatchable, just wondering if they lowered there bitrate.

TVNZ have decreased the bitrates on TVOne and TV 2 while they test their regional feeds of TV One. This has resulted in a reduced picture quality on DVB-S.

I haven't noticed any difference but then I'm only watching on a 29" CRT and not LCD or plasma where you will notice it a lot more.

Speak to TVNZ about it. They need to know that people have noticed.

Stratos is now the best channel for low artifacts.

so much for crystal clear digital quality, looks like square crystal quality.

Do you know what day they started doing lower bitrate?

I am writing to TVNZ to complain. They might be in breach of the Freeview Service Provider Code of Practice which tells TV companies what they should do. Section 1g says:

"It is important that the service is
technically sound to avoid the viewer
perception that the service offering
from Freeview is substandard."

The fact that TVNZ only offers its HD service on satellite via Sky is probably off-topic...

All those people receiving freeview via satellite need to go to the TVNZ website and make a complaint about the drop in bitrate otherwise we might get stuck with a crappy picture from tv1 & 2
heres the contact address http://tvnz.co.nz/content/869443
