There are now heaps of USB TV tuner 'dongles' on the market, many saying they work in "Australia and Europe" (DVB-T).

I appreciate that they don't work in the USA (NTSC and requires a specific model), but would this device also work here in NZ?

Yes, any DVB-T tuner should work here (and Australia, Europe, parts of Asia and a bunch of other places). It won't work it the US because North America uses ATSC.

I have the Asus U3100Mini running as my third tuner, it works great.

PS Would the same hold true for a dongle bought & working here in NZ being capable of picking up DVB-T in Australia?
Presumably the computer ssorts out the differences (mpeg2 vs. mpeg4) after the signals are received?

Yep it'd work, it's up to the player to decode the stream, the DVB-T dongles sold here and in Australia are the same.
