When I moved into my current place, there are two satellite dishes. One is on the roof of the house and one is sitting in the garden shed.  I decided to sell the one with LNB in the garden shed on TradeMe, and each time there was a guy with question saying that I dont own the dish followed by some legal stuff then my listing got removed by TradeMe. I am a bit confused,  I really want to get rid of the dish as it is talking space in my garden shed. Anyone with good suggestion on how to get rid of the your spare satellite dish? Thanks.

Tough one. It probably belongs to SKY, you could ask them to pick it up - they may not.

Best way to get rid of something unwanted - put it at your front gate, with a "For Sale $10" sign on it. Will be stolen within a day.

Don't put "Free" because people get confused and suspicious and won't take it.

Where are you and when can I come and pick it up? Assuming Sky don't want to know... Is it even a Sky dish?

When I worked for IHUG, we had customers ringing to ask for their SatNet/Ultra dishes to be removed - they were charged hell of a lot for it. Most went ballistic about it and even quoted the T and C from IHUG which bascially said "the dish belongs to IHUG" so why the hell couldnt IHUG go get it back.

Think a lot got used as target practise by people with BB guns etc :)

I had one on my parents roof.... was thinking one day "I should get it down, not used anymore" and within 30s I heard "bang, crash" - looked outside and theres the dish on the ground.

I'm curious too - I've still got a SKY receiver and it's doing nothing now I have Telstra.

I should have told the pushy MySky door-to-door salesman to take it on his way out, LOL.

I'll repeat Bazzer's offer, if you're in Auckland I'll take it (especially if it has a LNB and the mount's not completely rusted).

I see that I was beaten to all of the good responses. :)

Silver it and use it as a solar oven?

How can you tell whether its a sky dish or not? there is another similar looking dish mounting on the roof. im just assuming that the one on the roof belongs to sky tv.

The one in the photo is the thing. Anyone can confirm it does not belongs to sky then feel free to come and get it.

It most likely is a SKY dish, however I've never heard of them trying to get them back.

You could try calling them and asking them, and if they say it's not theirs or they don't want it (or you decide not to call them) I'd like to come by and grab it (again, assuming you're in Auckland).

Sure is, and most of the Cal amp LNB's have long since perished
