After the frustration of trying to get any ATI card to work I gave up and threw in a Nvidia 8600 GTS Silent Pipe card I wasn't using.
Unbelievable, it all just worked.  My Windows 7 (7100 the RC) now works perfectly with all TV channels, HD DVD and BluRay disks (and image ISOs), music, photos and videos.

The setup is;

• Windows 7 (7100)
• Nova DVB-T 500 dual tuner
• MyMovies 2 (database and brilliant add-in to MCE)
• Arcsoft TMT 3 Platinum as my BluRay and HD DVD player
• elby CloneDVD as my ISO image mounting drive (auto mounts handled by My Movies 2)
• Nvida 8600  GTS Silentpipe card
• Big Screen EPG
• Reven's Version 3 XMLTVNZ

I now get an 8 day EPG with all channels including TV3+1, TV logos, colour coding of content on the EPG (blue for movies etc), picture thumbnails from the EPG, (hover your mouse over CSI and up pops a image of the CSI team).

Recording works perfectly, one or two channels can be recorded simultaneously.  All the live TV pause, fast forward, rewind etc works fantastically well, no stutter.  Audio plays at 1.5 speed, then goes mute at 2, 4, 6 etc speed.

The kids know how to work the MCE and have all their favourite DVDs on my terabyte drive.  My Movies 2 is great, it has the DVD cover and back, actors, crew, comments etc. My 26 GB HD DVD and BluRay ISOs autoload and autoplay inside MCE using My Movies 2 which automounts the image, launches TMT 3 in full screen, and close and ejects the virtual drive when finished.  All done within MCE using the MCE remote control all the way through.

It works so well I no longer use my DSE Freeview box, CD player nor DVD player.

After years of being a Media Portal fan I just cannot see myself going back, it was easy getting all of this going and it works without the hassle of loading and linking PowerDVD codecs to get hardware acceleration etc.

Forgot to add that I got help in setting up Big Screen EPG from another thread here on Geekzone. There is no help file with version 0.4 so use;

http://www.datafilehost.com/download-1f738eb1.html

Thats the entire v0.3 download

Open the xps file in IE8 (or with xps viewer)

The key is to turn off inband epg using an option on the BSE main screen, this turns of the EIT short term program feed coming in with the DVB-T signal and instead uses the imported XML feed from Reven. I set up TV Logos first and this made it easier to pick the correct feed in MCE when using "edit channels" and the "edit listings"

Welcome to the Windows 7 Media Center experience. It is a vast improvement over XP and Vista and with the tools available (BSE, Reven XML, Haventech EPG, Media Browser, myMovies, PowerDVD, TMT3) once it is setup it just works.

Now just to make it even easier for everyone we just need a 8 day EPG for DVB-T out of the box from MS (MHEG5 required for that) and Bluray support. Done.

cheers

I agree, the Windows 7 Media experience cannot be beaten in terms of ease of setup and ease of use.

I couldn't get BSE to open the Haventech EPG. I put in the right url, it gets about 1/3rd of the way through and then just stops there, no messages, no progress. I just use XMLTVNZ instead and run this via the scheduler. Any ideas why Haventech won't read?

How do you rip your BluRay to iso?

Working fine for me. Post up on the support thread.

BluRay and HD DVD rip to ISO with AnyDVD HD. I buy the disks but notice even BluRay gets unplayable with mis-handling by my kids. Easier to rip it as soon as I buy it and they can play the image file. If I get raided by the nazis I have all the genuine disks. Pity there isn't actually a fair use provison in NZ but I am sure no one would prosecute me if I show I bought the disks.
I don't condone piracy!

Good-o.  I like those sentiments. Just don't like shelling out each year for AnyDVD. I can see the attraction though, those kids eat disks for breakfast!
