I look on the EPG last night (tues) and it says 'My Name is Earl' and 'Harpers Island' are in HD 5.1......have I missed something here? Or is this like a copy/paste job they've done as if they were showing on TV3? (Like they do with the TV3+1 EPG)
Even their website says it http://www.c4tv.co.nz/Default.aspx?TabId=665&listingID=1244178

There were some whispers that Media Works were are looking at their options. They do have the transponder space to roll out 2 x 1080i channels and 3+1 on DVB-T.

According to Freeview they have channel 9 already reserved for something. Will they have the space to do 2 x 1080i, 3 plus1, and a new channel?

cheers

They could do but it would mean running the 1080i channels at a lot lower bitrate.

There have been typos on the EPG from time to time, mainly where the source material is in HD, but obviously the channel itself is only broadcast in SD, like C4.

For a given space you can go HD with a low bitrate, or SD with a very high bit rate. Just because it's 1080 doesn't mean it has to be bluray quality.

I've spoken with freeview about this and some of the EPG information they get from MediaWorks has HD flagged for C4 programs when it shouldn't. At the moment there are no plans for C4 to go HD.

Do they have spare bandwidth on satellite to do regional feeds for TV3?

Yep I like the Waikato ads. Don't get enough farming ads in Auckland.
