We have a yess dvb-s2600u settop box here at my flat and i am trying to determine the max size of usb partition it can recognise.

it works fine with my 4gb usb stick but the hdd we have here will not work it just says usb connected on the screen constantly.

i have tryed it as the whole 500gb drive formated as FAT32, with just 30gb formated and am now trying 16gb but it takes a while to format each time so thought it would be quicker to ask.

Does the drive have its own external power supply ?
If not, you may find the USB port isnt pumping through enough power.

Hi,

I've got an old 60GB walkman (iAudio M3L no power supply), that I plug straight into the PVR that works with no problems.

You might have better luck formatting your HDD through the unit rather than your computer as that would elimate most if not all of your problems.

Good luck!

Hi,
I plugged a Western Digital 640GB drive in and it worked straight away. BUT the same drive plugged into a Diginet terestrial freewiex box would not work until the Diginet was set to FORMAT disk. It took it all of 5 seconds to format and now it works in both Diginet and Yess systems. Try formatting with your Yess box like Pulsta suggests.

Yea I'm sure you are right that formating on the box will fix the problem but the issue is the the box will not let me it just gives an error

Try this, unplug disk drive. Power down the Yess box. Power up the disk drive and plug into USB port then power up the Yess box. Occasionally mine "sees" the disk but wont let me use it unless I do this trick.

Humm ... I got a WD Essentials 640 gig.  The s2600u appeared to work OK, till I tried to read the hard disk on a computer, at which time I found it had screwed the partition table - entries were scrambled, and it claimed to have a 300 gig partition, which I'd never created!  I then tried it with a generic USB housing, and a 1 gig drive - same thing.  Then I tried making a 320 gig partition on each drive, and they seem to work fine.  I never got the PVR's format command to work.  I had the 'USB INSERTED' message, but nothing else works too.  Happened with two older USB/IDE adapters (one was USB 2.0), but not with the two newer adaptors listed earlier.  There is more about this model in another forum: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=83&topicid=41279

There are some really annoying things going on with the machine.  Worst is that the date is always one day behind.  Good side is that we can still use the EPG for recording - as dates on that are one day out too!

Does anyone else have this date problem?

Just got a reply to an email I sent to the NZ supplier, pointing to his downloads page, which contains a firmware update for the DVB-S2600U
http://www.efrontier.co.nz/estore/information.php?info_id=4&osCsid=uhih30gvk9n5fmfk11a3nb3i11

I backed up my old firmware, then installed this one. No problems, and it fixed the date issue! I think a Screen format bug is fixed too. Not sure what else it does yet ... but certainly seems to work OK.

Thanks for this...downloaded lastnight and installed no problem.

I found that it now reads off the EPG to set the record timer length, before it was set to what you last used. I'm liking it!!

thanks for i will upgrade the firmware now. i tryed my main 1tb externial drive in a esate/usb2 case with a 30gb fat partition and that worked fine. so i think it must be a issue with the other hdd.

i think we paid around 115 aswell off oneday.

only real gripes i have is the on screen menus are quite ugly, and instead of showing a black background when changing channels its a pixelated blue background most of the time.

oh and the flatmates keep turing the volume down on the settop box and up on the stereo so when i go to watch a dvd or xbox i get blasted. but thats not the settops fault

Press 'Menu' twice (on, and off again) to get rid of that horrible blue special boarder! Going on the 15 minutes I used it last night, I think they might have fixed that to an extent in the update! :-)
