I don't normally find myself asking for tech advice, but I have a client who has come to us with the following requirements:

  1. a TV tuner card that can record/watch 2 DVB-T channels in HD at the same time.

  2. Works with mediaportal

  3. within $200

He's tried the Hauppauge HVR4000, and it seems only able to do simultaneous analogue/DVB, but not 2 DVB signals at once (ie, #2 & 3, but not #1).
I've checked with the usual suppliers, and there's about one model that comes close - the AverTV Capture HD. It seems to do #1 & 3, however, a Google search has yielded insufficient data on #2.

I have the 3000 and I can record tv1, 2, tvnz6 tvnz 7 all at once. In either DVB-T or DVB-S (note the "or" not an "and")

What you're after though is a dual tuner if you would like to record tv1, 2 and/or 3, c4.

Something like a nova t 500 (PCI) or a HVR2200 PCIe.  These are dual dvb-t tuners.

The Nova-T 500 & HVR2200 do dual tuning, but not dual HD DVB-T. At the very least, what my client is after would be a quad-tuner card.

This is incorrect.

The HVR-2200 does dual HD DVB-T.  I have one, I use it to record/watch multiple channels off 2 MUXs at once.  I cannot speak for the Nova-T 500.

As davidcole mentions, MediaPortal supports recording multiple channels transmitted from one transponder simultaneously, but if you do really need to support multiple transponders at the same time, I can highly recommend the BGT3540 from BlackGold, which has a pair of terrestrial tuners and a pair of satellite tuners on one card, with the terrestrial tuners supporting both analogue and DVB-T. It's probably overkill for what you need, but I have one running with MediaPortal and it hasn't missed a beat.

The NovaT 500 is definitely a dual DVB-T tuner. It doesn't do Analog at all.
I have it in my Mediaportal and regularly record two FreeviewHD channels at once. In fact, because of Mediaportals ability to identify the channels that have been multiplexed on a single frequency, I have had occasion where I have effectively recroded/watched three channels simultaneously.
