Downloaded and tested the October 30 2009 firmware update for the Popcorn hour A110, no mention of latm-aac audio in the list of 30 odd updates but gave it a try anyway on Prime, TV2 and TV1 recordings from Windows 7 Media centre (*.wtv files) and viola the audio is there !

That sounds very strange.  I'd not heard on it being in the beta firmware.

Wonder if only applicable A110 and not A100.  I'll have to update my firmware now and try it out...

Goodnews if it's going though.

Are you using something to convert the wtv files to something the popcorn hour can support?

I have been experimenting with DVRMS to Mpeg but the files I am playing on the PH still have their .wtv extension and I thought all my conversions were failures.

I am not using ihome to play them but the Windows 7 Media Player that pops up on the menu screen of the popcorn hour.

PH recognises the audio as MPEG2 so perhaps they have converted...

Looks like I jumped the gun so I have changed the thread title.

I went back and played some older DVB Viewer DVB-T recordings and there is no audio on anything but TV3 Dolby Digital so Windows 7 Media Centre and the media device homegroup sharing seems to be doing something, browsing a network share from the PH doesn't even show .wtv files, but using the media device that windows 7 puts on the PH menu allows files to play with audio.

must be doing a transcode or something like that. Maybe watch the cpu of you w7 machine while playing and see if a task starts using cpu.

Yes, I think it is doing something on the fly as it appears to be streaming the recording to the PH, only the fast forward by 8x speed can be used, resume and skip by percentage are all unavailable. Still, after a long wait, I can watch recordings, other than TV3, on the Popcorn without conversion which takes 4E4!
