I'm looking for low power STB that is either DTH (DVB-S) or DTT (DVB-T) to pick up freeview channels. Any suggestions on what STB's have the lowest power consumption.

Ideally I would prefer to have DTT as that will give me regional TV ads, but having a MPEG2 vs MPEG4 H.264 & HE-AAC I am sure the power consumption on the DTT boxes will be higher.

I only need a composite output, so no RF/HDMI/Component or anything like that.

Has anyone done any investigation on the power consumption of STBs?

The Hills sat ones are only 12v 1a - i think

The Energy Star rating is a good indicator, but "Low Power" is one of those undefined terms that can mean whatever one wants it to - like "low sugar" or "low fat". The actual power consumption figures would be much more useful.

Yes, that is my problem too.

What i am looking for a sub 40 watts at 12 volts STB. As I plan to run about 8 of them 24x7 i would prefer something that uses the least amount of power.

A nice table of each of the STBs, with things like "decoding mpeg2 stream" LNB Power on/off (for dth) and their load requirements would be ideal.

If i spend the time myself and find something useful will post it here.

It looks like a DTH Satellite will be the way to go over a DTT box.

if you had all 8 of them running off 1x PSU that might be more efficent too.
