No official announcements that I know of.  Mediaworks still has Freeview Ch9 set aside for its use, but may delay any plans further given the economic situation.  Originally the company promised to launch two extra Freeview channels (one in 07, one in 08, each "targetting a niche market").

They delayed the first launch until April 09 (which ended up being the timeshifted TV3 +1), and theoretically planned to launch the second one around April 10.

TVNZ has pretty much used all its space on the FreeviewHD platform (without compressing channels), but has a few spare spots left on Freeview Satellite.   However the old TVNZ Sport Extra channel is now in limbo, so they could find a new use for that channel.
