Hi guys...have just bought a Panasonic TH-L42S10Z tv with built-in digital receiver.

After a auto-scan, I can only get Kordia channels like the Maori TV, Parliament TV, the Chinese TV etc. NO TVNZ or TV3 channels can be found...

I have noticed that on the channels I can receive, it's "CH45, 666mhz". It seems like I am getting signals from Waitarua. At MediaWorks frequency, I get very very weak signals, no channel can be found. At TVNZ frequency, I get no signals at all.

I live in South Remura, I wonder if I can get better reception if I use the Remuera transmitter rather than Waitarua? How do I change the currently "Horizontal" to "Vertical" (by this it means the aerial position? Do I just turn the aerial)?

What else do I need to check or do? Any suggestions ~?

Thanks heaps...!:D

Turn it to transmitter and then remount vertically, elements perpendicular to ground rather than parallell. Given low power of Remuera it may not be an easy repoint job.

Given that I can receive Kordia mux perfectly from Waitarua...is there anything I can try before I climb up to the roof?

I have moved the tv to my bedroom and plug the cable here....I can got very crappy TV3 channels! but still no luck with TVNZ channels...

it may be a wiring issue too?

the cable between TV and wall is RG59U...no idea what kind of cable the builder used up in the roof.

If its RG59 then you may have to consider replacing it. Failing that see if you can find the splitter, if saddle clamp variety I would replace that and reterminate all runs with F type connectors. If any amplifiers in circuit, will be near antenna, then check to see if they have power. Maybe just reorientate antenna slightly for Waitarua and see what happens.

EDIT: Replace all fly leads first with RG6.

remuera and the skytower are viable options if you can see them. If not, then forget it. Also dont forget pine hill is good into most of remuera as well.

Thank you so much guys...

I finally got the RG59u cable working after redoing the plugs...I get TV3 signal quality and strength both around 4/10; TV1 a bit worse at 1-2/10 and 3/10 but I do get a viewable picture.

I have bought a 4m cable from DSE hoping it would be better than my DIY cable but it's even worse - no TV1 channels and 1-2/10 on TV3 channels! it's not RG6 though....will return tomorrow.

I am tried and satisfied for now really don't want to get up to the roof top.... @_@ thank you all for you help...:)

The retail packed DSE cables are hopeless. The one I got had no shielding around it, just some copper wire that was loosely looped around the center core.

Forget anything that has a belling-lee plug on it. IMO it was stupid to perservere with those crap plugs in the digital era, but we followed europe for some reason with keeping them.

Use F connectors till the back of the TV and put an adapter on there.
