A friend was telling me lastnight that if i can receive prime via uhf aerial analogue it is most likely i can receive Freeview HD
is this true?

In most areas it is, check www.freeviewnz.tv to see if you have coverage in your area

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

i have checked it and it says "unlikely"
I live in wanganui
i have quite good prime reception on analogue

At the most basic level, yes. Resonable Prime usually means HD Freeview.

Unless you have an odd issue like myself.... used to have prime, then it vanished one day. Never seen it since. Friend who was doing Sky installs at the time came round with his gear - according to his equipment we get a brilliant Prime signal - but no TV in the house (and even tried different TVs) will pick up Prime.

So off to Freeview SD we went...

Do i have to realign the uhf aerial to receive freeview HD or can i just plug in my freeview HD tv and scan the channels

Not all of Wanganui is not officially in the Freeview|HD coverage area.

However parts of Wanganui can get Freeview|HD with a high gain aerial. Your best bet would be to contact a local aerial installer for advice.

No. But the issue has been discussed a few times on here in the past so you could try searching for it.

I'm sure an aerial installer could answer the question for you in 10 seconds.

Wangaui's problem is that it has hills to the east, and parts are fairly low

Maybe a strong interferering signal from somewhere closeby? Anyone else nearby have the same issue?

No, that would show up on the test equipment, and you would still be able to get the signal interference et al.

Its possible he wasnt reading it properly, he'd only been in the job for a couple of months......

Dosent bother us now anyway, went to SD Freeview as there was already a dish on the roof.

hmmmmm . . . . Prime UHF is availabel in quite a few areas where FreeviewHD is not available.
Nelson, Timaru & Invercargill in the South Island for example.
