Last time I looked DD was limited to the digital audio outputs.

Has this changed with the latest FV/HD receivers ?

I've a Vantage unit that transmits DD over HDMI - as posted here: LINK

Unit available here:  http://www.dtvs.co.nz/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=22&products_id=64

It doesn't mention this feature on the website or in the manual, but it certainly does work - if you remain cynical about this, perhaps find someone with a Vantage to confirm it, or ask the distributors to confirm either way. I have no coaxal or optical cable connecting the receiver and STB and we enjoy 5.1 DD on those few programmes when its broadcasted (as proven by the receiver's display and the quality of the sound!).

Thanks.

I'm looking at getting a Freeview HD box and have only seen the DSE/Zinwell boxes which don't offer this feature.

The Vantage is a single tuner unit ?

What about the Panasonic FV recorders ?
DD over HDMI ?

Yes, but has the ability to record two channels or watch 1 and record another off the same mux. While initially I had problems with recording 2 off the same mux, haven't had any issues for a long time.

+1 to that.

I also have a Vantage 6000T/NZ unit and can confirm that it outputs DD over HDMI.

That vantage is actually a very impressive unit.
Very stylish physical appearance with good build quality, and 'inside' the menu is very clear and has a very professional feel to it.

Really needs to be marketed better as I think it's the best freeview hd box with the external hard drive capability that I have seen so far. Only thing is the price is against it now compared to it's initial $249 (?) price.

Yeah, Richard - the original "special initial offer" was $299, but I'm sure as Geekzone members we were able to initially purchase it at $249. At $499 it's somewhat steep, esp. considering the same company was offerring the Homecast My Freview HD unit for such a bargain to GZ members (wish I'd seen this before it closed - my in-laws would have prob. been keen...).
