I bought a new dreambox I went to the update page and updated to the latest update and when it rebooted it would just keep restarting just showed a page Big GP thing and a word that said loading Ccam somthing and then it woud restart -

So I used Dream Tools2 and I was loading the new image which seamed to be quite succesfull and my XP computer just rebooted for no reason

never did that before?????

So NOW the Box is dead dead dead - the green light comes on and it doesnt make any difference what i do it just stays green, no communication through serial port or network cable no signal to the television

any one got a big hammer?

I guess thats what you get when you buy a pirated DM500. I presume you have not tried getting it fixed under warrenty or did you buy it from overseas?

Most of these boxes sold in New Zealand are pirated boxes. That's what ACTA should be about, not the other kind of things they are worrying about.

Most of the electronics sold on Trade Me would be banned from the country if we signed ACTA today.

You obviously had a clone that you tried to update with the genuine software - that's a guaranteed way to brick the device!

Every DM500 around is just about guaranteed to be a clone. Just be wary that TradeMe might pull your auction as they do regularly.

Because it's a clone. Trade Me knows that these ones available in New Zealand are to the real thing.

As you are breaking trademe's T&C

4.2d: You must not list anything that is illegal, offensive (including anything of a defamatory, pornographic, or racially or ethnically objectionable nature), stolen, or unsafe, anything which infringes copyright or other intellectual property rights, items which have been illegally imported or which would require illegal import or export in order to complete the transaction, or any item of which the sale is prohibited by, or violates any, law. You are responsible for ensuring that any listing by you does not breach this clause 4.2(d). You agree that Trade Me may disclose your personal information, including your name and contact details, to the relevant authorities, parties and/or the applicable intellectual property right holders (or their representatives) if we consider that you are in breach of this clause 4.2(d) at any time.

No one is saying you shouldn't stick to your clone. You asked if anybody could help and sbiddle pointed in the right direction by saying "You obviously had a clone that you tried to update with the genuine software - that's a guaranteed way to brick the device!"

So don't act all offended just because someone pointed the problem with the update.

Also, your original post was very offensive. You edited it, so I won't quote it here - but this is a warning that things like that are not accepted here.

I bought this on trade me last week - OK its a clone every one knows its a clone And its undoubtedly not the only item being sold in New Zealand or on trade me that,s a clone

Anyway I am posting on Geek Zone for Ideas on how to fix so I can offer that advice to a potential buyer not to debate politics

i'd send it back.

Otherwise, try reimaging it with PLi, using a serial cable and Dreamup

The Dream website lists the official dealer in NZ

http://www.dream-multimedia-tv.de/en/retailer_overview?field_region_value_many_to_one=New+Zealand&fi...=

DM500's haven't been made for many years, virtually every box that's now out there is guaranteed to be a clone!
