I think I see what you are getting at, but I also think you might have misunderstood one aspect of the way that digital TV is broadcast.
All of the Mediaworks channels are multiplexed and broadcast on one single frequency - in the case of the Auckland Waiatarua transmitter the frequency for the Mediaworks mux (or multiplex) is 570 MHz. TV3, TV3 Plus 1, C4 and now C42 are all broadcast on that same frequency - that's the reason why some PVR software can record simultaneous programmer on say TV3 and C4 using just one tuner.

dasimpsonsrule: on the vlc menu
Program>Playback>C4
Behodar: Check your recorded file; it may have recorded all the streams into a single file. Look in the Video > Video Track menu and see whether there is more than one.
Deev8: Perhaps the most straightforward solution might be to use different software for recording TV programmes. There are a few excellent quality free applications that could be more appropriate than VLC Player, which as the name suggests is primarily a media player. I've happily used GB-PVR for my recording requirements for a few years, other regulars here are long-term happy users of Mediaportal.
