Hi, I need a TV Card that can record one channel, whilst viewing another at the same time. Needs to have at least 1 DVB-S port on the card. Will be using the latest MediaPortal build (1.0 RC5). Thank you.

P.S. not sure if there is such a card if there isn't, can someone please suggest a DVB-T card that will record one channel whilst viewing another at the same time. Thanks.

It depends on the software you're using and the channels you're trying to record from, as channels are multiplexed (bundled together). Mediaportal for example supports recording from multiple channels on the same transponder, so you can record off TV1, TV2, TV6 and TV7 on one tuner. I use a Hauppauge PVR-2200 which has 2 DVB-T tuners in it so for example I can record from One, TV2, TV6 and TV7 (TVNZ) and TV3 and C4 (MediaWorks) all at the same time. It's pretty rare that I want to record from all multiplexes, but since Prime became available on DVB-T (which is on the Kordia mux) it's happened a couple of times.

I got one of these from a company up in Silverdale, they have the S1 and S2 cards (PCI and PCI express). Also USB S1 and S2 boxes. . really good reviews on the product too.

Thanks meesham, is there anything I need to set up in Mediaportal as far as multiplexing goes? Or is it just a feature by default? One more question, is there a list/table or something that shows which channels are on which transponders so that I know what my full recording options are?

Nope, it just works with MediaPortal and I believe GB-PVR supports it as well, but Windows MC doesn't.

I'm having trouble finding a reference for the channels, but off the top of my head:

TVNZ (Mux A): One, TV2, TV6, TV7
MediaWorks (Mux B): TV3, C4, C42, TV3+1
Kordia (Mux C): Prime, Maori TV, Parliament TV, Freeview HD Demo Channel, tvCentral and all the radio stations (I could be wrong about that)

Just to clarify, it doesn't depend on the card whether you can record more than one channel at a time.

As mentioned above it depends on whether the software you are using supports this - if it does then it will work with any card.

Technotrend, TeVii and Hauppauge cards are in common use in New Zealand.
