so because the 7epg has ended its free period i downloaded big screen epg but for some reason could not download epg for a few channels so i deleted the mcepgXXX.xml file under \windows\ehome.

when restarted and reloaded 7mc it could not download an epg for christchurch (8025) nor any other postcode i plugged in. ok so set up tuner, but after scanning 100% three times it couldnt find any channels!

what have i done??

on second thoughts the 7mc would have been useless without the epg anyway. a solemn consolation *sob

ok so did the scanning test on my laptop and
1) can someone confirm there is no downloadable setup guide for new zealand
2) it found channels with the scan - something which my desktop fails to do - is it to do with the signal config? eg sugarloaf vs ???

seems to be solved:
disabled ALL mc assoc services and processes.
do not start by clicking on live tv guide, instead load media center
this will ensure it starts with a completely virgin live tv setup

somehow it can now find channels on the scan which it could not in the previous 12 hours!

i hate technology
