Currently Juice is only free to air in Auckland. So I would guess would be only on dvb-t in Auckland. Analogue TV will shut-down in the Auckland area by November 2013. Juice may move sooner.

TAB were originally part of the freeview founders, but pulled out before launch.

Also around the DTT launch they were testing on freeview|HD but that was also dropped.

Sky indicated an option for their own DVB-T network a few years ago, and indicated they had been in talks with potentnail equipment suppliers.

Whether this could happen or not would depend entirely on what happens with existing UHF analogue frequencies, remembering that many of the existing channels (including some Freeview|HD ones) are going to be reallocated for non TV use anyway. There will need to be a nationwide Freeview|HD retune at some stage anyway, something that is ded simple for approved boxes, but may cause some issues with non approved boxes.

IMO, the spectrum is too valuable to waste on a pay operator, let them tender for some other freqs to use, since portability is hardly going to be an issue for them since you need to use their gear anyway.

Hope they dont make the same mistake they did with analog licenses and hand them a majority of them. At least with the infill being all on the one channel it means that there are less wasted, but to me a channel that isnt FTA that is on freqs that everyone has a reciver for is just dumb.

Well said. How many mux do you think we need for FTA TV, though?

Looking at other countries, 5-6 seems to be about the norm.. and we're talking about places with bigger population than NZ, so maybe the 3 in use, plus the 2 allocated (but unused) will be it?

IMO, they should have every second channel in use for digital, and then the infills on the ones inbetween them.

There isnt the same problem of interference that analog has, so why not push it to the limit?

+1

What's the go with that?  Do you have anything new to add?

Trackside is now on all formats so that's happened.

What's with Juice only free to air in Auckland only anyway?

I think you will find that if/when it is released you will be able to access it anywhere (depending on your device).

Doubt it, there are already region specific channels on freeview|HD so maintaining only Auckland is quite logical.

My understanding was that the Auckland juice transmission was only provided as a way to ensure that they get access to NZ on air funded videos or something, in that case it needs to be on HD as many people think they can no longer get it.
