Leave it online. The next time there is a software cycle via OTA (assuming OTA updates are enabled on it) it will do it from the SSU channel.

Generally can't. NZ has some custom specifics. There are however opensource 'patched' versions people have made around.

Next electronics may do it for you for free if its not getting them OTA

Updates are distributed OTA when the box is on. There is no need to look elsewhere for updates.

There is Hong Kong firmware that allows this and also breaks other things on the box.

The last firmware updates were quite a long time ago.
Certified boxes (like the Zinwell) pay quite a lot of money to broadcast the updates for a week at a time over a period of about 3 months - If the box was sitting in a warehouse/on a retailers shelf and missed the last updates I understood that NEXT will install the updates for you - but they dont/havent made it available on a website.
Dont hold your breath for OTA updates again.

PS Check this link:
http://freeviewnz.tv/supply_chain_registration
The last OTA updates for the Zinwell (and it appears any STB) was November last year.

There is no downloadable package of the NZ firmware that anyone has found - only NEXT electronics seem to have it available. So you wouldnt easily be able to go back to the NZ firmware. If NEXT would do it for you I would expect they would probably charge you for it.

This thread (its quite long) has the whole saga of peoples trials with the Olevia software
http://www.nzdtv.com/forum/showthread.php?304-Zinwell-620-HD

Basically they seemed to get it working quite nicely for NZ in later versions - the basic PVR function seems to work well enough. I gather the main thing you lose is the autotune for NZ frequencies - I think from memory you just need to look up from a published list (its mentioned in the later posts) and enter the right frequencies and away it goes. There were also warnings about making sure when you installed the Taiwanese firmware that you select the English option correctly - or you end up with a menu you might not be able to read too well.

This will also be interesting to you:
http://code.google.com/p/zimview/wiki/InstallingOleviaFirmwareOnZinwellSetTopBox

I did manage to get a login to the Olevia site and downloaded and saved the firmware at the time:
http://www.olevia.com.hk/home.php
Cant quite remember how I managed to get registered -anyway - if you are really keen I can probably post the firmware for you somewhere.

Seems odd to me that the firmware isn't made available to consumers from a website. Zinwell (NEXT Electronics is the distributor iirc) charge you a lot of cash if you return your unit to a store with a 'fault' which is fixed by updating the firmware.

I understood that they would update a box that didnt have the latest firmware (ie missed the over the air updates) for free - but that there were only a couple of branches that would do this.

I suggest giving them a call if you think you have an old version and would like to get it updated.
