Hello.

If there is anyone on GZ with one of these, could you please tell me what model USB HDD you are using? I have had problems with 2 different 1TB HDDs with the timeshift feature. Thanks in advance.

cheers,
grol

I know this isn't any help, but seriously good luck finding one that will work with that.
I tried a few and in the end sold the whole thing.

I heard the Western Digital ones were apparently ok. You'll need to get the machine to format it though from memory.

Thanks for that. The two that I tried were a WD Elements and a WD MyBook. I was told that a 640GB (Series 1 IIRC) MyBook should be ok. Which models were you unsuccessful with?

Hi,

I have one and bought a WD 500GB portable one that powers over USB to use with it. It didn't work well. Lots of glitches and freezes -especially with 1080i records.

I had an old Seagate externally powered portable 320GB sitting around and it works like magic. Have still had the occasional software crash with the Hyundai, but I don't think it was related to the drive. Basically the menu froze up and gave no control but recording continued fine. The big power off fixed it all later on.

I like the box, but the lack of being able to access both tuners is a hassle. Can't see why you can't access the sat tuner while recording from the DTT tuner and vice versa...

Thanks for that. I was considering grabbing a 7200rpm Seagate 500GB drive. It's convenient to have both DVB-T and DVB-S in one box.

Be good to hear if the larger Seagate works well. I'm running out of space!

My favourite feature of the Hyundai is the ability to access DTT HD and Sat HD channels on one remote.

(Got a few dishes and getting SBS1 aussie, NHK japan and CCTV all in HD)

Totally agree, this essentially became the reason I sold mine, along with the drive compatibility issues.
It's essentially a single tuner box when it comes to viewing and recording which is simply annoying given as you say, there are clearly two tuners in the unit.  Why you couldn't record on one and watch on another was beyond me.

The fact that it had the EIT data for the EPG from the freeview satellite service made the EPG the best of the non MHEG5 units for use with the HD freeview service, so that was a bonus.

The drives I tried were all usb powered so you might be onto something there.

You can download a linux utility for Windows so you can access the files on the external usb drive which is a big bonus too over some other boxes that are fairly locked down file wise.

The 2 drives I tried all had external power supplies. I find the EPG painfully slow to download the EPG data. It seems that it wants to download a whole lot more than just the current day's data, which takes a long time. Our old Topfield STB seemed reasonably snappy to view the EIT EPG.
