Hi

I would like to get an idea on the file size of recordings from DVB-S.  Can someone give me an est on the file size of 3 hours worth of recording?

Thanks

SD around 1.5 GB/h, so about 4.5 GB for 3 h.
HD around 4 GB/h, so about 12 GB for 3 h.

SBS broadcasts in HD over DVB-S and you can pick it up on a sky/freeview dish...

Just so.  The SD figure was from a TV ONE recording, and the HD figure from an SBS HD one.

I just had a look at a pile of HD recordings off Sky, and the filesize seems to vary. An hour of Boardwalk Empire is less than 4GB but other hour long programs are closer to 5GB. The rugby from this morning was 14GB. Guess it comes down to the complexity of the video stream.

Thanks for the replies.  I was meaning NZ freeview Sat which does not broadcast in HD.  I do know you can get HD via Sat but I got the answer.

It can vary a bit from channel to channel.

TV1&2 are generally around 1.5-2 GB / hr

TVNZ6/7 are usually under 1.5GB / hr

TV3/C4 about 2 GB/hr
TV3 Plus 1 about 1.4-1.5 GB / hr

Prime around 1.5-1.7 GB/hr

Other channels will be around 1.5GB or under.

Really depends on bitrate, plus what is on the other channels on the multiplex.
