I emailed Freeview to inquire about the release date for satellite recorders as there a few people out there waiting for these.

The Freeview website says....

MyFreeview satellite®

This service is due to launch in 2010.

With MyFreeview® satellite you’ll be in control of your TV viewing.  Pause, record and replay live TV to fit around your busy schedule.  You’ll get crystal clear digital quality pictures and sound.

You’ll need a satellite dish and EITHER:

There are currently no Freeview approved MyFreeview® satellite products.  We expect the first ones to be available in 2010.

Here is the reply:

Hi,

MyFreeview satellite is being worked on at present, but it will now be 2011 and we will be updating the website.

Thanks for your enquiry,

Amazing really that someone hasn't jumped in on this. There are many recorders that could do this, and being freeview approved, with all that marketing backing, I'm sure it could pay off.

That said the satellite stuff seems a lot more expensive. You can get the Zinwell 250GB terrestrial/freeview HD recorder for $400 now.

In the satellite world that gets you an SD satellite box with an external hard drive, or just an HD satellite box and you supply your own hard drive. A twin tuner satellite box with internal hard drive is around $850 - $900, so maybe there just isn't the market for an approved unit? There are still a lot of people who cannot get the HD/UHF service though.
