Looking for advice on replacement uhf box, mine has just failed after 2 years and 7 months.
Seems they only last about 3 years, so will be interesting to see what happens to tv's with built-in decoders.
I got one of the first Zinwell zmt-620hd boxes, (cost $480 then) and it has performed well until now, when it just suddenly stopped while running.
Its not the power supply or the integrated micro as the remote can still turn the led on and off, but there is absolutely no output from any of the outllets. So most likely a chip problem which pretty much means irrepairable!

Where did you purchase from?
Consumer Guarantees Act should apply here if it's less than 3 years old.

Thats interesting, how does one go about making a claim?
Purchased from freeviewshop.co.nz
I sent an email complaint to them asking about repairs - they said it was possible but suggested it was time to replace it as newer ones had better chipsets etc. I found the old one worked perfectly well
until it failed so can't see the reasoning there.

If you have proof of purchase then tell the place you purchased it from you want it replaced under the Consumer Guarantee Act. It shouldn't have failed within about 5 years or more (my estimate) and therefore is not fit for the purpose.
I did this with my DSE box (Zinwell 620 in disguise) which failed a little after 2 years and they replaced it. Took about 6 weeks but they gave me a Zinwell which is working fine.

I'm not sure as I've never used it myself, but others here sure have so have a search around the forums and see what you find.

Others might want to chip in here, but yeah I would think you have good grounds to go back on this as you should expect more than 3 years out of something like this.  If not it should come with a label on the advertising explaining it only lasts for 3 years sort of thing.
